The farm is off-grid with all electricity and water harvested on the farm itself, meaning the site is fully sustainable. This helps to keep our running costs down and our environmental impact low.

Solar Power

The farm runs on power generated by solar panels and stored in a battery bank. This system supplies all the power required for the lighting in the turkey sheds, the main barn and the day to day running of the farm, all year round.

In December we turn on our stand-by generator to help with the plucking and quilling machines, as well as the running of the 126 square meter walk-in fridge.

The solar power system requires monitoring, especially in the winter months when the daylight hours and the intensity of the sun is limited and power has to be managed accordingly.

For more information on our solar power journey can be found here.

The Well

All the water on the farm is drawn from a bore hole and pumped into two large header tanks (2 x 4000ltrs). The water is then filtered and UV treated before it then runs through conventional water pipe to multiple automatic water drinkers, set up in each individual turkey shed.
